Text 1 Jul Taking Bad Advice

You ever have your friends tell you something that sounds really good at the time, and then afterwards you realize what an idiot you were for listening to them. Well I’m in that boat right now and it sucks, but whose to blame for following them myself, and only myself. Although it sucks hopefully relationships can be rebuilt, but only time will tell. Ah the joys of bad decisions.

Text 30 Mar Torah Portion Tazria

According to this weeks Torah portion Wayyiqra (pronounced Vayeekra) or Leviticus chapters 12-13 There are two main topics addressed. Giving birth and skin diseases most likely associated with sin. We learn that when a woman gives birth to a child that she has a time of impurity just as she does on her period. She must offer an elevation offering and a sin offering at the end of her time of impurity. The question arose why should she have to provide a sin offering if she has not sinned? Well the Rabbi’s right that it is possible she cursed G_d or her husband in the process of giving birth. However they cannot know for sure!!! It is also possible that the sin offering is connected to Eve’s original sin in the garden and the curse of painful childbearing that came along with it. Either way it is not made clear in scripture.

Chapter 13

This chapter is talking mostly about lesions on the skin. The lesions do not appear today. However the Rabbi’s write that it was a disease associated with Lashan Hara (The evil tongue). Once again we have no proof of this other than their word that it is true. One other interpretation is that the disease might have been for those who were disobedient to the Torah of G_d in it’s entirety. Either way it was most likely a disease associated with sin. We can be assured that today similar things happen in our lives. G_d loves us and therefore He disciplines us when we go astray.
